Finding the best bank accounts in the UK is no easy task. However, it’s easy to narrow down the banks that help make our community’s lives easier.

We’re reviewing the top 3 brands as voted by the Financielle community ⬇️

Starling

Starling Bank was founded by banking legend Anne Bowden. It’s often referred to as a digital challenger or neobank. They challenged the old school way of banking, paving the way for a new era.

Financielle loves:

⏰ Set up time – We love how quick it is to set up a new account. It’s lean and straightforward – all completed in the app.

💰 Starling Spaces – You can divide your money up into Spaces (pots of money). The fun part is personalising your Spaces with images and target amounts. It’s Financielle Sinking Fund heaven!

📲 Help in-app – No need to visit a branch or stay on hold to customer services to speak to a team member, you can live chat in-app (easy peasy).

🌎 No fees – Starling offers a no-fee debit card for International travel with zero foreign transaction fees on purchases and cash withdrawals.

🪁Kid friendly – You can open up a Kite card for your kids and manage directly from your Starling account.

Monzo

Monzo Bank was founded by ex-Starling co-founder Tom Blomfield. Famous for its coral card and funny personal annual spending reviews. It’s rumoured that over 10% of the UK population are Monzo users 👀 So what’s all the fuss about?

Financielle loves:

💰 Monzo pots – Monzo pots are great for organising your money, whether you’re managing sinking funds or bills. Pots enable you to remove the mental money juggle with users describing it as “Accessible, visual and easy to manage”. Users also love the scheduling functionality, meaning you can schedule money to come out of pots into the main account.

🤝🏾 Customer service – The Monzo team are helpful and responsive when it comes to customer queries, including when there’s a suspected scam or fraud on users accounts.

🎁 Perks – Pay £7 a month for access to Monzo perks which include

  • Weekly Greggs treat (Claim a sausage roll, regular sized hot drink, doughnut or muffin every week at Greggs).
  • Annual Railcard
  • 3.25% AER (variable) Interest Rate (Boosting the standard rate of 2.75% AER variable)

🌎 No travel fees – Pay anywhere and in any currency on your debit or credit card with no foreign transaction fees.

🚨 Warning  – Be wary of Monzo’s ‘Monzo Flex’. It’s a virtual credit card where you can pay in 3, interest free… basically Buy Now Pay Later. We know many Financielle users have struggled to pay off their Monzo Flex account, so proceed with caution. The easy to access overdraft has also tripped up some of our community members ⬇️

“…their overdraft function makes it far TOO EASY to dip back into debt. I could have had access to so much money instantly which made it so much harder to break that overdraft cycle”.

Nationwide

Founded in 1884, Nationwide might seem like an anomaly in Financielle’s list of the UK’s best bank accounts – an oldie but a goodie. Nationwide operates on a member-owned model rather than for shareholders – that means the customer remains at its core.

Financielle loves:

💸 Switching bonuses – Nationwide often offer generous switching bonuses for qualifying customers and accounts (up to £175).

🤑 Bonuses – In 2025 the bank paid £100 “Fairer Share” payments to over 4 million qualifying members. Imagine that… a bank sharing their profits!

🏡 Focus on community – With many banks closing down their high street presence, Nationwide has made a commitment to keep their physical branches open till at least 2030, that’s 696 stores! Financielle community members love this, commenting “It’s 1 of only 3 banks on my local highstreet and 2 of those are about to close down, leaving just Nationwide”.
