Payday Reset: Why Now Is the Perfect Time to Finally Get Your Money $h*t Together

If you’re a millennial like me, you will have used the “I’ll start on Monday” rhetoric when it comes to healthy eating and exercise. Nobody, and I mean nobody starts a new health regime on a Friday (do they?).

Payday however is the perfect time to kickstart a new money routine. A line drawn in the sand on previous poor money management and most importantly it’s the wealthiest you’ll be in the whole month which means there’s lots to go at. Whether you’re looking to ditch your debt or save towards your money goals this payday is your sign to finally take back control of your money once and for all.

To give you some perspective, I’m not a naturally financially savvy person. I spent my late teens and early twenties trying to keep up with the Joneses. Buying designer handbags (on credit), going on luxury holidays well out of my league including St.Tropez, Mexico, USA (on credit) and spent most weekends eating out in fine dining establishments (spoiler, also paid for by credit). I didn’t monitor my spending habits, no spreadsheets or budgeting apps. I just hoped I’d get to the month with money left over and used credit to ‘tide’ me over. It was a vicious cycle and one I will never repeat again.

The Financielle method is the first time I’ve finally understood how to manage money without the overwhelm. It’s now so engrained into my monthly routine, there’s no dread or reservations about creating a budget for my family to follow for the month, it’s something I actively look forward to doing.

We decide as a family where we want to spend our money each month and that is such an empowering feeling. If we have a lot of social plans in a month, our budget will reflect that and the entertainment pot will increase. If we need to top up school uniform, the clothing budget will increase. If I don’t have a haircut in a month the beauty budget can decrease.

Budgeting gets a bad rep and I understand why. It’s sometimes positioned  as a process that leads to a ‘lack’ mentality but budgeting with Financielle feels completely different. It puts you in control financially, possibly for the first time in your life.

Budgeting with Financielle is the ultimate flex.

Unlike other budgeting and banking apps we don’t provide a report with your spending behaviours from the previous month, we give you the power to choose where your hard earned cash goes before the month happens. This means you can take the emotion or potential impulsive nature of spending money. You can calmly decide ahead of time what’s important to you.

My advice to you, let this be the month that everything changes. Let this payday be the one where you finally get your money $h*t together.

Head to the Financielle app now to create your payday budget.
